- Evaluated foundation bearing conditions and verified fill, compaction, and subsurface drainage installations.
Project Description
The Barcelo Apartments project involved the development of a 131-unit apartment complex. MacKay’s geotechnical team supported the project from early planning through construction, providing design-phase evaluations and field services to help the project team understand site conditions and support successful construction.
The team’s services began with an initial geotechnical evaluation and report, along with geologic mapping and plan review. These early-phase services provided important information to support project planning and design decisions before construction began.
During construction, the geotechnical team provided ongoing observation and monitoring of critical site activities, including excavations and the installation and performance of a soldier pile shoring wall. The team also observed tieback anchor installation and load testing, evaluated foundation subgrade bearing conditions, and verified fill placement, compaction, and subsurface drainage installations.
By providing consistent support throughout the project lifecycle, we helped the design and construction team address geotechnical considerations from initial site evaluation through final construction activities. The project demonstrates the value of integrating geotechnical expertise throughout the planning and construction of complex urban developments.
