  • Incorporated recycled crushed concrete, recycled asphalt, and warm-mix asphalt to support more sustainable roadway construction.

Project Description

The I-94 Edens Spur improvements widened the inner shoulders in both directions between Pfingsten Road and the Union Pacific Railroad, improving safety and roadway performance along this important regional connection. This project incorporated recycled crushed concrete and asphalt into the new roadway embankment and base, along with warm-mix asphalt pavement.

Work included a new storm drainage system with approximately four times the previous number of drainage structures, reconstruction of three bridges, and upgrades to Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), traffic signals, and roadway lighting.

The project team provided construction inspection services across multiple work areas along with periodic erosion control inspections. Construction required careful traffic management and coordination to maintain access while protecting the Chicago River branches and Metra rail infrastructure during bridge demolition and construction.

Work performed by 2IM Group, now part of MacKay.
